What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is a term used to describe the duties and responsibilities that those providing a health, social or education service have to protect individuals from harm.  This includes safer staff recruitment and Train’d Up’s Safeguarding / Prevent Policy.

We are committed to ensuring that staff who work with young people and vulnerable adults are vetted by conducting Disclosure and Barring Service checks (DBS).  In addition, staff receive training on Safeguarding and Prevent.  We have dedicated Safeguarding & Prevent Champions ready to listen and support you as required.

Social Media & Online Safety

You may have heard a lot in the news about cyber-bullying and social media misuse.  Online sites and mobile apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Kik, etc have given young people new ways to communicate and get involved with other people on a truly global scale.  We encourage learners to behave responsibly online and when using social media platforms.  Misbehaviour by text message or online is treated just as seriously as any other.  To find out more about preventing cyber-bullying and staying safe online, please visit www.thinkuknow.co.uk.

What is Prevent?

Prevent is the name given to part of the Government’s strategy to prevent terrorism by reducing the possibility of radicalisation.  Train’d Up has a statutory duty to play its part in this strategy.  This includes training all staff in the Governments Prevent strategy.

Train’d Up recognises that some learners, staff or visitors may be at risk from radicalisation.  On this basis, Train’d Up has developed with all stakeholders a strong culture of respect and a safe place of learning.  It is in this context that Train’d Up has considered its Prevent Duty and recognises the importance of working with staff, local authorities, the Police, the local safeguarding board, health professionals, local Prevent experts and others to identify and to safeguard vulnerable learners or staff.
